Dr. Adams is the first Pediatric Gastroenterologist to call Palm Beach County home. He is the father of four children. Prior to coming to Florida he received his general pediatric training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Newark as well as Schneider Children's Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He continued on and completed his pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Schneider Children's Hospital.
Since coming to Florida he has been quite involved in advocating for the pediatric gastroenterology needs of South Florida's children. He has served as chairman of the local chapter medical advisory committee of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. He has been pediatric advisor to the local South Florida Celiac Support Group. At St. Mary's Medical Center he has been Chief of Pediatrics, member of the Medical Executive Committee and Chairman of the hospital's Credential Committee.
He is locally and nationally renowned, having been repeatedly listed in numerous publications of the best physicians. He did his initial medical training here in Florida at the University of South Florida. Specialization in pediatric gastroenterology took place at Baylor College of Medicine's, Texas Children's Hospital, one of the highest ranked and largest children's hospitals in the nation.
During his fellowship program at Baylor College of Medicine, he was awarded the competitive National Institutes of Health's Gastroenterology Research Training Grant. While there, he worked diligently on his research and was an author in 4 peer reviewed journal articles and 5 abstracts based on this fellowship research. All this hard work during his fellowship years accumulated with him being awarded the top fellowship research award at Baylor College of Medicine, for his work on the effects of intravenous nutrition on small intestinal blood flow.
Upon leaving fellowship, Dr. Stephens joined Palm Beach Pediatric Gastroenterology in 2005. Since he has been here, he has devoted all his knowledge and energy to the full time care of his patients. He is a caring and compassionate person whom his patients have come to love. Since joining his partner, Dr. Adams, he has been awarded several community awards, including being noted as one of America’s top pediatricians by the Consumers’ Research Council of America, and he has become a staple in the local pediatric gastroenterology field in West Palm Beach.
